Course Description: Hands-on training in Microsoft Word 2007 includes creating and formatting various types of business documents, graphics, and applications (i.e., business letters and memos, tables, columns, flyers, labels, envelopes, mail merge documents, outlines, headers/footers, templates, styles, footnotes/endnotes, etc.).

Recommended Prerequisite(s): CAOT 1 or the ability to type 30 words a minute. Working knowledge of the Windows operating system or CAOT 92.

Required Materials:

You will have access to SNAP (EMC Paradigm’s learning management system). This will allow you to practice tutorials, submit homework and take quizzes and exams online. Your textbook comes packaged with an activation code for Snap. The first time you login you will be required to setup your Snap account. You will need an Enrollment Key from your instructor which will be provided the first day of class as well as an Activation Code which can be found inside the front cover of the Snap booklet that was packaged with your textbook.

Grading Policy

  1. Incompletes will not be issued except for a documented medical emergency.
  2. Drops are the responsibility of the student.

Course Requirements

  1. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. Most instructional activities are difficult to repeat outside the classroom.
  2. Students are responsible for material covered in any lectures missed, including changes in schedule, so be sure to get notes from a classmate, or see the instructor.
  3. All textbook sections should be read prior to the date they will be discussed.
  4. All assignments and tests must be completed on the dates assigned.
  5. Make-up tests will not be allowed except in extreme circumstances. If you have a valid reason for your absence on a test day, you should notify your instructor on or before the day of the test. Be prepared to show proof for your reason.

Classroom Policies

  1. Cell phones and other electronic devices should be turned off during class.
  2. No food or drink is allowed in computer rooms. Please get rid of all drinks, food, candy, and gum before entering the classroom.
  3. Children should not be brought to class. Please make childcare arrangements for your children.
  4. To login on a classroom computer – Your username is the first 2 letters of your first name followed by the first 2 letters of your last name followed by the last 5 digits in your student ID. (Note: your student ID is not your social security number.) Your password is the month and day of your birth each as two digits. For example: if your name is Rachel Jerry with a student ID of 780234316 and birthday of July 1st then your username would be raje34316 and your password would be 0701.

Assignments

  1. All of your work must be done using a computer with the software specified in this course.
  2. Any work not submitted by the due date/time will be considered late. Late work will NOT be accepted.
  3. Students found cheating on any part of an assignment will receive no points for the total assignment.
  4. All homework assignments must be submitted via the class Snap website. No assignments will be accepted on disk or in hard copy format.

Cheating will not be tolerated in any way and can result in an "F" in the course.

The following actions are considered cheating:

talking during a test or graded assignment
getting help or copying answers from another student during a test or graded assignment
helping or giving another student answers during a test or graded assignment
turning in an assignment which has not been completed by you
using notes, books, dictionaries, or other references that are not authorized during a test

No distinction will be made between the student who did the work or test and the student who received or copied the work or test.

Students will receive a zero on the test or assignment, and the student(s) may also be referred to the Vice President of Student Services for further action. This may result in a permanent log of the students who cheated recorded in the students’ LAVC files. This could also result in probation, suspension, and expulsion.
