Course Expectations

Everyone comes to the class with different expectations.  This online course DOES duplicate the content of the traditional course, but NOT the delivery. An online course relies on a self-directed student completing the assignments, readings, and threaded discussions on their own time schedule while meeting the posted deadlines. Students who perform at their potential, have high self-esteem, welcome change and are willing to assume responsibility, make decisions, and express opinions, are successful in this online course.

It is very easy to fall behind in an online class. There are no scheduled on-campus or on-line class periods. The entire course is asynchronous and can be accessed at your convenience. Your only requirement is to complete assignments and exams as scheduled on the course schedule. You must be a self-directed student who can plan your schedule to accommodate the deadlines outlined in the syllabus. Cyber students are often in multiple life roles and time is a valuable commodity.

You are expected to visit the course website several times a week.  Ideally, once a day.  Once there, you will find announcements, lecture material, assignments, and exams.

Grading Policy

  1. Incompletes will not be issued except for a documented medical emergency.
  2. Drops are the responsibility of the student.

Regarding Computer Software

  1. All computer assignments must be done using Microsoft FrontPage 2003.
  2. Students using any previous version of FrontPage will not be able to complete all of the assignments correctly, and the textbook's instructions will often not match the student's screen.
  3. Students should have their own home (or office) computer, an Internet connection and the required software. If you do not yet have the software you will need to purchase it as soon as possible or install the 120-day free trial version that comes with the textbook. See the link under textbook section for more information.
  4. Do not rely on a campus lab or a library to complete your assignments. They may not have the necessary software or the correct features installed to complete your assignments.
  5. Students taking only online classes are not guaranteed access in the CSIS department's computer lab (B231). If you do not have the required software you should consider taking this class on campus.

Regarding Computer Assignments

  1. Computer assignments consist of all the work done in this class apart from the quizzes.
  2. Assignments must be submitted by 11:00 p.m. on the due date.
  3. Any work not submitted on time will be considered late. A late assignment will be penalized one point for each day it is late. No assignments will be accepted more than one week late.
  4. Students found cheating on any part of an assignment will receive no points for the total assignment.

Regarding Exams

  1. Cheating will not be tolerated. Any student caught cheating on an exam may be assigned a failing grade for the course.
  2. The final exam is a cumulative objective test. The exam contains 50 true/false and multiple choice questions worth 2 points each for a total of 100 points available.

Regarding Quizzes

  1. There are 2 quizzes, which are worth 5 points each, and 9 quizzes which are worth 10 points each.
  2. Quizzes must be submitted by 11:00 p.m. on the due date.
  3. The structure of each quiz will vary. Questions may be any combination of the following: true/false or multiple choice.
  4. Weekly quizzes should be taken during the week in which they are assigned. Once the deadline for a quiz has passed it cannot be made up and the grade for that quiz becomes a zero.
  5. Any student caught cheating on a quiz will receive a zero on that quiz and may face further disciplinary action.
